| Welcome to the Neighborhood. The neighborhood being the Braselton, Georgia area; which is about midway between Gwinnett County (east of Atlanta) and Athens, Georgia. Athens is about 45 minutes north and east of Atlanta. Situated between the mountains to the north and the piedmont to the south, its climate is moderate year round. Athens is home to the University of Georgia, which boasts an enrollment of 30,000 and is the flagship institution of the University System of Georgia. Athens is, without a doubt, a college town; but there’s much more to the city than meets the eye. It has a vibrant music scene, having birthed both REM and the B-52’s. It’s cultural heritage owes much to the University, which was founded in 1785, and the larger southern cultural influence. This area has been my home for the past 16 years.
Current Athens weather
Athens Daily News web site- Athens’ local commercial paper (Otherwise known as the Athens Daily Snooze, and it’s sister publication, the Banner-Herald - Banana Hairball) The Flagpole, Athens’ alternative press; with lots of goodies on happenings around town and the music and arts scene The Red and Black, the independant student newspaper for the University; also known as the Rude and Bleak. Not exactly objective reporting, but amusing nonetheless. |
